2 Under 2: Finding Out You’re Pregnant…again
I remember realizing we were about to have 2 under 2. It took a long time to get pregnant with our first. I knew I had PCOS and very irregular cycles and knew it would, and we knew we wanted to have kids closer together so might as well start trying right away… right?

I did not expect to get pregnant that fast. Our first two are 11 months apart in age, Irish twins. I was still exclusively breastfeeding (not the most effective birth control in the world) and was scared and excited all the same. I am 11 months older than my brother, and my husband is 15 months older than his brother–we grew up living the 2 under 2 life and loved it!
So maybe you just found out you’re pregnant with your second after it just seems like you had your first. Maybe you’re doing the math and realizing “oh gosh, it’s going to be two under two years old!” (Or if you’re like our case, 2 under 1 for a little bit) I’m sure you have so many questions, excitements, nerves, fears… I know I did.
Let me comfort you, 2 under 2 is one of the most fun journeys I’ve been on. At times, difficult. But most of the time, so much fun! Here are some of the joys that come up with having 2 under 2:
Built in Besties

I was so worried about jealousy and sometimes there are some moments where both kiddos want to be held and I don’t have enough lap space, but generally they are little besties! So many times we have been “locked out” of their room while they are giggling to themselves. So many times our daughter has snuck over to her little brother’s classroom at church to take care of him. They have their own little language and love talking to each other each morning when they wake up–hearing their little voices on the monitor tell each other good morning is one of my favorite things!
Sharing toys (and sometime clothes!)
Being so close in age is really nice because they are in a lot of similar play stages, especially as they get older. They share a lot of the same interest in toys which means we don’t have to worry so much about separating toys. And there’s a point where our daughter and son hit about the same size, which can be really useful when one baby has a blowout but you forgot to pack them a change of clothes you can just use the other’s change of clothes!
When you’re done with diapers you’re done

If you’re stopping at this 2 under 2 (or if you’re crazy like us and go to 3u3), when you pass the diaper stage you’re done with diapers. When you get them out of cribs, you’re done with cribs. When they grow out of the baby toys, you’re done with the baby toys. No need to store hand me down toys or clothes because it’s such of a quick hand me down! It makes it a lot easier to have both kiddos relatively on the same stage. And this point I don’t know how my friends with kids with bigger age gaps do it, I couldn’t get out of the diaper stage just to jump right back in it!
cute moments galore
What’s better than one cute little kiddo? Two cute little kiddos! Your heart will melt when you start seeing them give each other kisses, holding hands in the Costco shopping cart, and taking care of each other. And even their little spats over who’s toy is who’s can be cute… if you let it
So sit back and enjoy…
Pregnancy with a toddler/baby was the hardest part for us because my health conditions flare so bad during pregnancy… but that was a blessing in the end because it makes having 2 littles feel so much easier! Enjoy the ride, as crazy as it is. It’s a lot more fun when you make the choice to have fun doing it. Remember, children are a blessing and they belong to God anyways, they’re just here with us for a little bit to disciple and enjoy

Chronically yours,
Sierra
